i was dismayed when my old dad told me he had donated £5000 to the local congregation for a hall purchase. that was my future inheritance going up in smoke.
he also donated £100 a month.
that hall was subsequently sold.
i grew up in the org and never got baptised, however i was wondering recently about how much money my family and old friends are wasting in all that.
.
i remember of course never talking in amounts, that it was important to give from what you can not what you have etc but i admit i have no clue how much the average witness gives (say in % of their income).. i'm sure it varies greatly, i'd love to hear what you guys have to say..

many of you don't know me or won't remember me.
i left the jw's and my husband and my home last september - forging a new life in a new town.
i haven't posted here for many months, but have been reading most days.
i know this has been discussed over the years on this forum, but i just had to post this again!.
it seems that the popular fad amongst the "spiritual" ones in the local circuits is to home school their children instead of sending them to school.. now to clarify, we are in a very nice area of semi rural australia .
one with very community minded, and strong family values.
@Landy-------you missed out about learning how to masturbate.

Home schooling=no schooling.
from a psychcentral (run by mental health professionals): a familiar item on a list of 7 types of parental abuse :.
spiritual abuse.
has the child experienced:dichotomous thinking – dividing people into two parts: those who agree with the parent and those who don’t.
being dragged to meetings--especially mid-week with school next morning.
forced to sit quietly for 2 hours through a meeting--worse at an assembly.
being kept out of school assembly--subject to ridicule by other kids
taken out door knocking--???!!!
no birthdays
no xmas
no blood transfusions
being taught about evil spirits---demunz---
being taught about armageddon--an day now--all that death and suffering.
sweet dreams kids--sleep well.

i think all children of jw's are abused--one way or another.
i can't be too sure, because i didn't answer, but my mother had called me this morning and said this week is our co visit.. it's been a while since i last had elders at my door.
last time that happened, i posted about it, so it was only a few months.. i really don't want to talk with them.
is there a chance i'll be announced as "no longer one of..." after he's left if i don't?.
with any luck.
